Albuquerque has such a vibrant and diverse community. There is a hesitation, an intimidation factor, I often hear people describe when sharing their thoughts about approaching strangers. I am not afraid to approach people from all walks of life, as long as the vibe is right. I have spoken to gang members watching a corner, street market vendors, artists, musicians, other photographers, and you will quickly get a feel for whether or not you are welcome in their space. When I ask someone for their portrait they are usually comfortable as long as we share a few friendly words. If I detect any unease when I turn to them, I simply look past them and keep walking. I am at home in New Mexico and at ease with its people.
